IAIN GRANDAGE - COLLABORATION - ANGSTSCHATTEN

Angstschatten - the cult übermetal band from the former GDR - were holed up for years in a Leipzig underground garage, having moved there from Sachsen in the late 80s. Fearing reprisals from the Stasi for their hard hitting social realist output, they made the break from their former home in mid 1994, surprised at the changes they found outside their garage. Undaunted, they continue to produce their distinctive style of Metal-für-das-Volk, producing hits such as "Ich bin ein Doppelgänger, ich auch" and a new eponymous song, both incorporated in the Splintergrüp's dance theatre work 'Rasen"(Lawn). These tracks have helped cement Angstschatten's place in the pantheon of underground cult bands alongside Ern Malley and his Comets and Kelly Trench's now only sporadic appearances in Regenwaldtraume.
Iain's contribution to the collaboration includes evocative cello improvisations on their love ballad "Leck mich, Mutter" and hurdy-gurdy on "Der Staub der Geschichte verstopft mir die Lungen". Both tracks are sadly yet to be released.
